Washington Street Sidewalk Extension Project Update November 19, 2024
The sidewalk, wheelchair ramps, curbing, loam, seeding and bioswale work has been completed which is approximately 95% of the project. The remaining work involves new pedestrian signal installation at Cheney Drive and line striping for the crosswalks at Pond Road and Cheney Drive. This work shall take place within the next several days. The hours of work will be 8AM to 4PM Monday to Fridays. No weekend hours are currently anticipated for this work. Please anticipate traffic delays during these hours. Police details will be present to help with vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Give yourself extra travel time or use alternative routes if possible while traveling in this area during the construction hours.
Washington Street Sidewalk Extension Project Update November 4, 2024
The drainage pipe and bioswale work has been completed. The granite curbing work has been completed except for a small section at the Cheney Drive intersection. The electric conduit crossing under the roadway at Elms Bank will occur during the daytime as well as the installation of the concrete wheelchair ramps this week. The hours of work will be 8AM to 4PM Monday to Fridays. No weekend hours are currently anticipated for this work. Please anticipate traffic delays during these hours. Police details will be present to help with vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Give yourself extra travel time or use alternative routes if possible while traveling in this area during the construction hours.

The installation for the granite curb is undergoing near the Sudbury Aqueduct crossing and at the Cheney Drive (Elms Bank) intersection. Granite curb installation at the Pond Road intersection and across from Cheney Drive and at the Natick Town line was completed this week. Over the next two weeks we expect the bioswale, concrete wheelchair ramps and pedestrian light crossing at Elms Bank to be installed. The hours of work will be 8AM to 4PM Monday to Fridays. No weekend hours are currently anticipated for this work. Please anticipate traffic delays during these hours. Police details will be present to help with vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Washington Street Sidewalk Extension Project Update October 7, 2024
Construction for the five-foot wide sidewalk is now undergoing. The first several inches of the topsoil were removed and replaced with six inches of gravel base course. The work installing the bituminous binder course pavement over the gravel base is scheduled to begin this week. Saw cutting the existing pavement for granite curb installation at Pond Road intersection and at the Natick town line is also scheduled for this week. The hours of work will be 8AM to 4PM Monday to Fridays. No weekend hours are currently anticipated for this work. Please anticipate traffic delays during these hours. The message boards are now up and running at both ends of the project. Construction is expected to start at the upper section near 849 Washington Street this Thursday. The work will continue over the next several weeks weather permitting. The hours of work will be 8AM to 4PM Monday to Fridays. No weekend hours are currently anticipated for this work. Please anticipate traffic delays during these hours. Police details will be present to help with vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Washington Street Sidewalk Extension Project Update September 14, 2024
Department of Public Works (DPW) contractors are extending the sidewalk on the westbound side of Washington Street across from Elm Bank from 849 Washington Street to the Natick town line. The work to be accomplished as part of this project includes the following; sidewalk reconstruction/extension, curbing, ADA wheelchair ramps, pedestrian crossing beacon, pavement markings, loam & seeding and bioswale drainage improvements. The work will be accomplished by Richard D’Ambrosia, Inc.
Obstructions to traffic, parking, and other roadway functions may be affected by this project. The work is expected to begin during the second week of September and will continue through late fall or early winter.
