The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) has resumed collecting fares after a three year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of Monday, May 1, fees are required for riders using the CatchConnect micro-transit service and the Fixed Route Bus Service.
In addition to resuming fare collection, the MWRTA is implementing a new payment system intended to provide more convenient and accessible payment options, faster boarding times, and more efficient data gathering.
The new system still allows for cash payment of fares, as well as checks, and credit cards.
For Fixed Route riders, if a person uses cash, the process remains the same with an onboard fare box. However, for riders who use the new mobile CatchApp, these individuals can now load balances onto the app or buy monthly passes.
These online options are upgrades over previous fare structures. Monthly passes for the general public are $20, and monthly passes for senior citizens or individuals with disabilities are $10.
For the CatchConnect, rides are a flat rate of $2.00/trip. Riders can contact the MWRTA call center at (508) 283-5083 or schedule a trip using the Catch App. CatchConnect schedules and information are available on the Town of Wellesley public transportation webpages.
As riders adjust to the new fare collection system, the MWRTA is reassuring the public that:
- No one will be denied a ride.
- If there are glitches in the system, MWRTA teams will be working to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
Please note: There is no change to accounts or payments used for ADA Paratransit, Council on Aging, or Dial a Ride.
