Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki is proud to announce the promotion of William Griffin from police officer to the rank of sergeant. The Wellesley Select Board made the promotion earlier this month. Two new officers also have joined the department recently as well.
Sergeant Griffin is a seven-year veteran of the Wellesley Police Department. Prior to joining Wellesley, Sergeant Griffin served as a police officer with Northeastern University Police Department in Boston for several years. He holds an M.S. in Criminal Justice Leadership from Northeastern as well.
During his tenure with Wellesley, Sergeant Griffin has served as a field training officer, background investigator, firearms instructor and drug recognition expert (DRE). He is one of approximately 120 police officers who hold a DRE certification in the Commonwealth. Additionally, Officer Griffin is assigned to the Department’s Crisis Intervention Team as well as recently joining the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Counsel Tactical Bike Unit. This bike unit works with other cities and towns at large scale incidents throughout eastern Massachusetts.
Sergeant Griffin had endeavored to make a positive difference in the community. He has fostered relationships with community members and has often made time during his patrol shift to visit with elderly residents who live alone and do not have family members nearby.
Additionally, the department welcomes two new officers to the community. Officer Brian Collins and Officer Domenic Scopa recently graduated from the Randolph Police Academy and are currently in field training with senior Wellesley Police Officers.
Both Officer Collins and Officer Scopa were dispatchers in the Wellesley Police Department prior to being hired as police officers, making them extremely familiar with the community. Officer Collins previously worked for the Dover Police Department, while Officer Scopa was a college English professor prior to joining the department.
The Wellesley Police Department congratulates all three on their new assignments and roles within the department.
