Board of Selectmen member Lise Olney testified on Beacon Hill on November 12 in support of the FUTURE Act.

Wellesley's State Senator Cynthia Creem is a lead sponsor of the bill which was developed in partnership with the Gas Leaks Allies.

The bill calls for an acceleration in the repair of gas leaks, improved gas safety, and encourages a transition to renewable thermal energy.

Olney spoke before the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy as part of a municipal panel that included representatives from the communities of Arlington, Lexington and Ashland.

In her remarks, Olney talked about the work Wellesley is doing to address the problem of gas leaks in our community, explaining how the situation is actually getting worse, not better, and requires action at the state level.

In October 2019, the Board of Selectmen approved a resolution urging state lawmakers to pass the FUTURE Act or similar legislation.
