[ARCHIVED] A Senior Send Off for Gayle Thieme

TPC ribbon cutting

Residents and friends recently shared memories and goodbye hugs with Council on Aging director Gayle Thieme.

Thieme leaves the COA on August 30 after 16 years of helping Wellesley seniors remain involved in the community. To her, they are her "family in Wellesley."

A drop-in farewell party took place at the Tolles Parsons Center, a building Thieme considers one of the high points of her career in Wellesley.

"I'm proud to have played a role in bringing Billie (Tolles) dream to reality and it's been a joy to witness how much all of you enjoy the TPC. My wish is that it continues to be a vibrant and active center for years and years to come," she said.

Thieme's contributions to the Town were recognized by board members, staff and so many COA participants who call her "irreplaceable."

She began working in Wellesley in 2003 and became COA director in 2006. At the goodbye party, Thieme thanked her staff and encouraged everyone to embrace change and new additions.

While she wasn't specific about her future plans, Thieme assured the crowd that she'll continue to work with seniors.

Thank you Gayle - goodbye and good luck!
