[ARCHIVED] Public Forum on Indigenous Peoples Day Planned for April 29

News Logo

The Wellesley Board of Selectmen will hold a public forum during its regular meeting on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 7 p.m. to begin consideration of a request from the World of Wellesley (WOW) to change Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.

The forum will take place in the Juliani Room at Wellesley Town Hall (525 Washington St). All interested individuals are encouraged to attend.

At the forum, representatives from World of Wellesley will give an overview of why they believe the Town should recognize Indigenous Peoples Day. The Board has not deliberated on this proposal in any way and would like to reflect on the information and get input and comments from the public.

Following the WOW presentation, members of the community will be invited to share their thoughts on this request and raise issues they would like the Board to consider.

In preparation for the public forum, attendees are encouraged to read Indigenous Peoples Day information and Indigenous Peoples Day FAQs.

The Board views this forum as the first of many opportunities for the community to publicly discuss this issue, share perspectives and answer questions. The next steps following this meeting will be determined based on the input gathered on April 29.

Contact the Selectmen’s Office with any questions.
