Wellesley Public Schools welcomes students back to school on Wednesday, August 28.
Opening day activities include a brief ribbon cutting for the new Hardy Elementary School, an event for students and families to mark this important milestone.
A community-wide grand opening celebration for Hardy is planned for later this fall.
The opening of Hardy comes just six months after the new Hunnewell Elementary School opened last February.
“These new schools represent a generational investment in the future of public education and we’re grateful for the Town and community support in making this possible,” said Dr. David Lussier, Superintendent of Schools.
With the opening of the new schools and the closing of Upham Elementary School, WPS families are following a new redistricting plan and becoming familiar with different routes to get to and from school.
Families are encouraged to make a plan to get to school by taking the bus, carpooling, walking, biking, or scootering. If you’re interested in becoming a Massachusetts Safe Routes to School representative, please reach out to Select Board Chair Colette Aufranc at caufranc@wellesleyma.gov
Drivers Be Aware
Drivers will notice changes to traffic patterns along Weston Road at Hardy School. There is a new stoplight at the school entrance and a new exit from Hardy onto Route 9 eastbound. The Route 9 exit is open for morning drop-off only.
The Wellesley Police Department will be assisting crossing guards and traffic monitors to ensure student safety as our community becomes familiar with these new patterns.
Athletic Update
At Wellesley High School, the athletics department is preparing to debut the lights at Hunnewell Field.
Limited football, soccer, and field hockey games will take place “under the lights” this fall. More information will be available in early September.
Wishing all families a successful start to the 2024-2025 school year!
