[ARCHIVED] Thank you, Chief Jack Pilecki!

Jack Pilecki

Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki retires on June 30, after 41 years of serving our community and serving as Wellesley's 9th Chief of Police for the past seven and-a-half years.

A thoughtful and progressive leader, Chief Pilecki's guiding principal "Do the Right Thing" has shaped the Wellesley Police Department (WPD) and every officer he's trained. He's encouraged creativity and innovation, modernized equipment and technology, improved safety, and introduced programs to help provide the very best public service possible to everyone in Wellesley.

Under his guidance, WPD has a deep bench of law enforcement leaders, including new Chief of Police Scott Whittemore who will take over on July 1.

Banner 2Known throughout Wellesley for his approachable attitude, his humor, his loyalty, and his love of golf, Chief Pilecki is truly a friend to many. He's tireless in his support for initiatives and organizations in our community, especially The Julie Fund, the Utility Box Art Project, Wellesley Climate Action initiatives, Wellesley Free Library programs, Sustainable Wellesley, and so many others.

He advocated for the hiring of Wellesley's first-ever community service dog, Winnie, who regularly curls up under his desk waiting for a treat.

In recent years, Chief Pilecki's steady hand and extraordinary sensitivity have steered WPD and our community through difficult times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, and anti-Asian incidents in Wellesley.

He's a founding member of the Wellesley Freedom Team, a non-partisan group of volunteers available to support individuals feeling victimized by incidents of racism and bias in our Town.

As Chief of Police, he has brought energy, passion, and compassion to his job every day for the past four decades. In retirement, he plans to travel, spend more time with his family and his dog, Bo, and play a lot more golf!

Thank you, Jack, for your outstanding efforts and commitment to the Town of Wellesley.

Congratulations - we will all miss you!
