The Wellesley Police Department is pleased to announce that assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission are scheduled to conduct an assessment of the department, to include policies, procedures, operations and facilities beginning on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. The assessment is expected to last for two to three days. Verification by the Assessment Team that the department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain state Accreditation -- a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession.
Accreditation status requires that the department meet 274 mandatory standards, and at least 66 of 120 optional standards.
Achieving Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. We look forward to sharing the continued success of our commitment to excellence with our community upon completing our assessment. Thank you all for your ongoing support.
