[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Ends on May 11

Coronavirus News

The Massachusetts COVID-19 public health emergency will end on Thursday, May 11 to align with the end of the federal public health emergency.

This declaration expires a little more than three years after it was put in place on February 2, 2020, at the beginning of what became the Coronavirus pandemic. While no longer a pandemic, COVID-19 remains a public health concern.

The Wellesley Health Department encourages residents over the age of 65, immunocompromised, or otherwise high-risk to continue to take reasonable precautions against respiratory viruses. This includes avoiding close contact with people who are sick and disinfecting hands frequently.

If you are concerned about getting sick, consider wearing a mask when indoors in public spaces, especially when rates of respiratory infections are high in the community.

The Health Department has free adult and child-sized masks available inside the rear entrance to the Warren Building at 90 Washington Street. The building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Free COVID-19 test kits are also available.
