The Department of Public Works Water & Sewer Division will be flushing water mains in Wellesley during the day from Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28.
Hydrant flushing is done between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The purpose of flushing is to remove sediment buildup in the mains and to make sure fire hydrants and valves are operating safely and correctly.
Flushing may temporarily discolor water due to small particles that are dislodged during the flushing. Water pressure may also be briefly reduced. If possible, DPW is recommending that homeowners restrict water use during the flushing period.
Discolored water is temporary and is NOT harmful, but it might stain laundry. Please avoid doing laundry during the flushing period and certainly while the conditions exist.
Before washing clothes after the flushing period, check cold water for possible discoloration by running the water for a minute or two to clear pipes. If the water does not clear at that time, try again later.
Unfortunately, the Town cannot fully guarantee the safety of doing laundry even during evenings and other times of the day since the water system has been disturbed.
Thank you for your patience as we work to continually improve Wellesley water.
