Apply to be Wellesley's new Fire Chief. The Town is seeking highly qualified candidates for this position following the retirement of longtime Fire Chief Rick DeLorie in January 2023. 

Appointed by the Select Board and reporting to the Executive Director of Government Services, the Fire Chief serves a key member of the Town's leadership team and oversees all Wellesley Fire and Rescue operations. 

The Wellesley Fire Department includes 53 full-time non-civil service employees and is an active member of the MetroFire Association. The department covers a response area of 10.4 square miles in Wellesley and operates two fire stations. In 2022 the department responded to 4,053 calls, including 1,849 EMS/motor vehicle crash calls.   

Qualified candidates for this position must have a Bachelor's Degree and Chief Fire Officer training, with advanced degrees in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Homeland Security, Business or Public Administration expected. 

Preferred applicants also should have completed the National Fire Academy's Executive Officer Program and should be credentialed as a Massachusetts Fire Chief or have the ability to become credentialed upon appointment.
