Running for office? Promoting a cause? Advertising your business? If you're displaying a sign in Wellesley, make sure you're following Town zoning bylaws and remember to display signs on private property, not on Town-owned (public) land.
These regulations are enforced by the Zoning Inspector. Signs placed on public land may be removed.
To better help residents understand where signs can and cannot be displayed, here are a few things to keep in mind.
- As a general rule, signs must be placed on private property and not on Town-owned property. Examples of Town-owned property include Fuller Brook Park and other parkland, all public easements and sidewalks, the Town Forest, Town trails and the Sudbury Aqueduct, the center area of the Great Plain roundabout, and other locations.
- To determine whether or not an area is private property or Town-owned property, use the interactive Map Wellesley tool on the Town of Wellesley website.
- Signs displayed on School-owned property must have the approval of Wellesley Public Schools. Please contact WPS for information.
- Signs displayed at the entrance to the Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) must be approved by the RDF office. Please contact 781-235-7600 ext. 3345.
- Candidate campaign signs must be removed the day after any election.
Wellesley-based organizations who want to display a banner at the Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) should fill out the online RDF Banner Display application. Please make note of the specific banner requirements and amount of time banners can be displayed (generally for one week).
