The Wellesley Board of Selectmen conditionally appointed two candidates as police officers during their meeting on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.
The candidates, Kiley Davis and Michael Mankavech, were brought forward to the Board by Chief Jack Pilecki and Deputy Chief Scott Whittemore. Chief Pilecki reviewed both candidate’s qualifications, their education, past achievements, and discussed the testing and hiring procedures that they navigated through. After reviewing the candidates, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint both Mr. Mankavech and Ms. Davis to the Wellesley Police Department.
Ms. Davis is currently employed as an emergency dispatcher for a nearby police department. She obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and holds a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security. Mr. Mankavech is presently employed as a private investigator. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice and has an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
Both candidates will now complete comprehensive medical, psychological, and physical tests. Once these are completed, the candidates are scheduled to start the MBTA Transit Police Academy in the second week of September. They will attend the police academy for approximately six months, and if they successfully graduate, will be sworn in as police officers. They will complete an additional three months of field training at the Wellesley Police Department as well.
Both candidates took the Wellesley Police Department’s entrance exam that was held in June of this year. They completed two interviews with the police department command staff and underwent an extensive background check by Wellesley Police Department investigators. The two appointments fill recent vacancies within the department, one of which was created when a second School Resource Officer position was funded in July of 2018.
