As a part of the Fare Transformation project, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will accept public comments regarding a proposed new regulation 703 CMR 5.00 Fare Evasion through June 10, 2022 and will hold a virtual public meeting (register here) on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
The proposed regulation is established pursuant to M.G.L. c. 159, §101, and promotes revenue collection and addresses issues related to the fraudulent or illegal evasion of fare payments on vehicles or ferries owned by or operated for the MBTA. 703 CMR 5.00 establishes a process by which violators may be issued a warning or noncriminal citation and assessed a fine proportionate to the nature of the offense.
Written comments presenting data, views, or arguments concerning the proposed regulation will be accepted until 5 PM on June 10, 2022. Written comments must be submitted by email or postal mail. Email is strongly preferred.
