[ARCHIVED] Citizen's Police Academy is Back This Spring

The Wellesley Police Department's adult Citizen Police Academy is back this spring. 

This 9-week program is for adults 18 years and older. Classes meet on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. beginning on March 16 through May 18, 2022. 

The Academy is designed to give participants an overview of Police Department functions and operating procedures. Classes feature a combination of lectures, tours,Chief Pilecki with Officer Mike Mankavech. demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

Topics covered include:

  • Emergency 911 System & Dispatching
  • Motor Vehicle Law/Operating Under the Influence
  • Domestic Violence
  • Interview & Interrogation/Witness Identification
  • Narcotics Investigation
  • Computer/Internet Crimes
  • Criminal Law
  • Crime Prevention
  • Crime Scene Search/Evidence Processing
  • Defensive Equipment/Procedures and more

WPD.WinnieParticipants also have a chance to ride along in a police cruiser with an officer after all classes have been completed.

Classes meet in the Kingsbury Room at the Wellesley Police Department. There is no class on Wednesday, April 20 due to spring vacation break for schools.

Meet Wellesley Police Department officers (and Community Service dog Winnie) and learn the ins and outs of a job in law enforcement. Space is limited to 20 students.
