[ARCHIVED] Walk, Roll, or Bike to School on October 6

Sustainable Mobility_logo

Walk, roll, or bike to school on Wednesday, October 6 as part of Walk to School Day 2021.

Held annually, this international event joins together students in every U.S. state and around the world to encourage physical activity, promote safe neighborhoods, and help the environment.

In Wellesley, recent studies have shown that 30 percent of our traffic is school-related transportation. Walking, rolling, or biking to school can help ease traffic congestion and help families build lifelong healthy habits.

On Wednesday, join with friends or neighbors and walk together to school, or ride bikes or scooters. Set up a walking or biking pool where grown-ups take turns leading groups to school.

Live too far away from school to walk? Carpool or drive part way and walk the rest of the way.

Wellesley is participating in the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program, a community initiative focused on bridging the gap between health and transportation. Watch for upcoming information and opportunities to become involved at elementary and middle school levels.

If you're interested in volunteering for the Safe Routes to School program. contact School Committee chair Catherine Mirick at mirickc@wellesleyps.org or Select Board member Colette Aufranc at caufranc@wellesleyma.gov

By doing our part, we can help make every day walk to school day!
