[ARCHIVED] WPD Promotes Two New Officers

The Wellesley Board of Selectmen made two new promotions within the Wellesley Police Department during their meeting on Monday, February 26, 2018.  Officer Mark Carrasquillo was promoted to the rank of sergeant and Sergeant Scott Showstead was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Wellesley Police Chief Jack Pilecki formally recommended and presented Officer Carrasquillo and Sergeant Showstead to the board.

DSC_2412Officer Mark Carrasquillo is an 11 year member of the Wellesley Police Department. He has a Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice.  He also has his law degree and is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.   Prior to being promoted, Officer Carrasquillo was a Field Training Officer (FTO).  An FTO is responsible for training and supervising new police officers once they graduate from the police academy.  Officer Carrasquillo is a member of the Wellesley Police Department’s accident reconstruction team.  This unit investigates traffic crashes that result in significant injuries.  The members of the team receive lengthy training, and are nationally certified.

Sergeant Scott Showstead is a veteran 20 year member of the Wellesley Police Department.  He has previously served as a patrol officer and detective before being promoted to sergeant in 2006.  Sergeant Showstead primarily supervised a shift of police officers.  More recently, Sergeant Showstead served as the department’s accreditation manager and oversaw the process of moving the department to full accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.  This was a significant step for the Wellesley Police Department, and demonstrates that the department uses best practices in our policies and procedures.  The department recently went through a 3-year review from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Process and passed.

Sergeant Showstead also supervises the Wellesley Police Department’s accident reconstruction unit.  He is a nationally trained and certified accident reconstructionist.

Sergeant Carrasquillo’s  duties will now consist of supervising a shift of Wellesley Police Officers on a daily basis.  Lieutenant Showstead will supervise traffic and parking enforcement within the department.
