Wellesley first responders, Town officials, and community members marked the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a solemn ceremony at Fire Department Headquarters.
This annual observance is an opportunity to honor and remember the victims and the heroes of that tragic day.
The program included prayers from Reverend Jim Laughlin (St. John - St. Paul Catholic Collaborative) and Rabbi Moshe Bleich (Wellesley Weston Chabad), prayers from the Wellesley Fire and Police Departments, and reflections from local leaders.
"As we stand together this morning, may we commit ourselves anew to honoring those we lost, not only with our memories, but in the way we live," said Select Board chair Marjorie Freiman, who encouraged all in attendance to choose compassion over division and to remember the resilience that carried our community and our nation through the tragedy.
Four Wellesley residents were killed in the attacks - John Cahill, Neilie Casey, Edmund Glazier, and Patrick Quigley.
The ceremony ended with bells ringing in remembrance of those individuals and everyone who perished on September 11.
