Water Treatment Plant general foreman Dwight "Smitty" Rogers is celebrating 50 years of dedicated service to the Town of Wellesley.
Hired on January 8, 1975, Smitty has been an integral part of the Wellesley DPW team, providing front-line supervision, oversight and maintenance, and on call service for all water treatment issues.
He served as "clerk of the works" overseeing the construction of Wellesley's three water treatment plants, and he continues to oversee and maintain all Town wells, including the four new wells at the Morses Pond treatment plant.
Smitty also helped to connect Wellesley to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) "big faucet", and he is the last remaining DPW employee who worked the historic Blizzard of 1978.
A valued member of our community, some say Smitty is never without a wrench in his hand!
He's a Wellesley native who in his spare time enjoys classic cars and motorcycles. He and his wife Denise, also a Wellesley native and former Town employee, have been together for 52 years and many, many day and night on call emergencies.
Please join us in congratulating Smitty and Denise on this remarkable journey.
Thank you, Smitty! We're glad you're planning to stay on a few more years to keep things flowing smoothly in the Water Division.
