The Wellesley Department of Public Works (DPW) is gearing up for the popular Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 18.
Celebrate National Public Works Week, meet DPW staff, and get an up-close look at big trucks. Visit DPW Headquarters (30 Municipal Way) on Saturday, May 18 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon as part of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend. This event is rain or shine; if it's wet, the trucks will be on display in the garage bays.
NEW this year, the DPW is holding a sensory hour from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. Sensory hour will have limited attendance, no lights, no music, and no horn honking to be mindful of those attendees who want to participate with less sensory overload.
Visitors can explore many different types of equipment during the event including electric equipment, dump trucks, street sweepers, front loaders. The event will also include informational displays about other DPW programs like composting options (the new Black Earth Composting or the Wellesley RDF food waste recycling program), Water Utility online portal, the RDF app, and more.
StepUp! Donate clothing or food when you attend the event. Bring gently worn business clothing to donate to Suits for Success. This organization helps provide appropriate attire for men and women to wear to employment interviews. One suit can help change someone’s life.
Or bring a non-perishable food donation to help Fill-A-Truck! All donated food will go to the Wellesley Food Pantry which currently serves approximately 420 clients and about 200 households in town. One third of the clients are children 18 years old and younger. Desired donations include:
- Chicken broth, unsalted, in cartons only (NO cans or cubes)
- Peanut butter, 16oz. creamy only
- Canned peas
- Canned corn
- Canned beets
- No bags of rice, please
