[ARCHIVED] Road Closures for 2024 Boston Marathon

Police News

The Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15 will impact many roads in Wellesley during the day. The route requires roads to close at 8:30 a.m. so drivers should plan accordingly.

The Marathon route divides the Town of Wellesley in half.  Runners enter Wellesley on Central Street (Rt. 135) at the Natick line near Wellesley College. The race route proceeds east on Central Street through Wellesley Square, which is the halfway point in the race. Runners continue on Washington Street (Rt. 16) eastbound through Wellesley Hills and into the Lower Falls.  The race exits Wellesley on Washington Street at the Newton line.

During the race, the only way to cross over the route with a motor vehicle is to use Route 9 (Worcester Street) underneath Route 16 (Washington Street).

  • Washington Street  from Grove Street to the Newton line

No vehicles will be allowed to cross the race route once roads have closed. Vehicles parked in parking lots along the route will not be allowed to leave until the road is open.

Live updates on road status or changes will be posted on the Wellesley Police Department X/Twitter and Facebook accounts @wellesleypolice on the day of the race.
