[ARCHIVED] Updated News Release: Police Activity on Barton Road

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On March 3, 2024 at 3:12 p.m. the Wellesley Police Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a male party who stated he has been robbed at gunpoint. The male party further stated the he had stayed overnight at one of the apartments on Barton Road and had walked to the store to purchase some food. He said when he returned to the apartment, he noticed that a bag of medication had been taken from his suitcase. When he asked the three people in the apartment for his medication back one of the men pointed a gun at him and told him he wouldn’t be getting the medication back and to leave the apartment. The reporting party stated there were two male parties and a female party in the apartment.

Officers responded to Barton Road and observed there were people looking out of the windows of the apartment but they were not answering the phone when the Wellesley Police attempted to contact them. The apartments in this complex are close to each other, and as such, the adjacent apartments were evacuated as a precaution to ensure the safety of the residents.

The Metropolitan Law Enforcement SWAT team responded to assist Wellesley officers. As the MetroLEC SWAT team was attempting to contact the individuals inside of the apartment, one of the male parties exited. A short time later the female party exited the apartment. The remaining male party called 9-1-1 and spoke with Wellesley Police Dispatcher Jelfs who instructed him to exit the front door of the apartment, he complied and exited the apartment. One of the individuals involved in the incident was taken into custody for an unrelated warrant. Another individual was taken into custody and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and will be arraigned Monday morning at Dedham District Court. The third individual was released from the scene.

Once all three individuals exited the apartment the Metropolitan Law Enforcement SWAT team conducted a search of the apartment to ensure there were no other occupants inside.

The residents that had been evacuated were returned to their apartments once it was safe to do so.

The incident is currently under investigation.
