Wellesley Department of Public Works (DPW) crews are preparing for the snowstorm predicted this weekend on Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7.
The storm is expected to bring plowable snow and gusty winds. Crews will be pre-treating Wellesley's main roads and hills on Saturday with liquid de-icer (brine) and have salting and plowing trucks standing by. DPW will be working closely with Wellesley Police and Fire Departments to respond to any emergencies.
Wellesley Public Schools have cancelled all building rentals and athletic events on Sunday so parking lots and sidewalks can be cleared in time for a return to school on Monday morning.
A few snow reminders for our community:
- If possible, stay home and off the roads during the storm. Clean up will take time; crews clear main roadways first, followed by residential streets, and sidewalks. Wait to clear driveway openings until plows have passed.
- Clear snow from fire hydrants in your neighborhood. See our Adopt a Fire Hydrant map for locations near your home.
- Wear bright, reflective clothing when shoveling and plowing sidewalks, driveways and near roadways. If visibility is poor, it can be difficult for plow drivers to see pedestrians.
- Check on elderly neighbors and friends.
- When shoveling snow, take frequent breaks and stop if you begin to feel unwell. Call 9-1-1 if symptoms don't resolve quickly.
