Hydrant flushing in Wellesley will take place beginning Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20.
The Water & Sewer Division of the DPW flushes Town water mains twice a year to remove sediment buildup in the mains and to check that fire hydrants and valves are operating safely.
Flushing is performed between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may result in the temporary discoloration of water and a possible reduction in water pressure. During the flushing period, residents may want to restrict water use and avoid doing laundry.
Water discoloration is caused by small particles dislodged during the flushing and is temporary and not harmful. However, discolored water might stain your laundry, especially white materials and may also stain plumbing fixtures.
Prior to washing clothes please check cold water taps for possible discoloration. If the water is discolored, let it run for a minute or two to begin clearing. If it does not clear at that time, try again later.
Unfortunately, the Town cannot fully guarantee the safety of doing laundry and/or the possibility of discoloration even during evenings and other times of the day since the water system has been disturbed. Please check your water carefully prior to doing laundry and inspect the laundry before it is dried.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the quality of the drinking water. If you would like additional information, please call the Water Division at 235-7600 ext. 3355.
