[ARCHIVED] A Solemn Day of Remembrance

Fire Patch

Sept 11_WFD coat. 2023Wellesley first responders, elected officials, family members, and friends gathered for a ceremony at Fire Department Headquarters to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks was marked by reflection and a solemn day of remembrance.

The brief program included remarks by WFD Assistant Chief Nat Brady and Deputy Chief Steve Mortarelli, along with prayers for firefighters, police officers, and all in service. As  Wellesley Police and Fire honor guards and personnel stood in salute, firefighters rang the symbolic 5-5-5 tolling of the fire station bell, a sign of honor and respect for those who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

Wellesley residents killed on that tragic day were John Cahill, Neilie Casey, Edmund Glazer, and Patrick Quigley. We will never forget them.
