The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) expects a peak in demand for electricity on Thursday, September 7 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
This is due to the extremely hot temperatures predicted.
WMLP customers are asked to voluntarily cut back on energy use during this time. It does not mean a shortage of electricity.
Reducing electricity demand during this period will help reduce both energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Watch this video from the Wellesley Climate Action Committee to learn more.
Ways to help reduce electric use include:
- Waiting to charge electric vehicles (EVs) until after peak times
- Turning up air conditioner thermostats a few degrees
- Postponing the use of dehumidifiers, pool filters, clothes dryers, and other unnecessary appliances
The peak is expected to pass by 9:00 p.m. and customers can return to regular electric use. Thank you!
