The Wellesley Police Department is excited to welcome four new police officers to the town and to our department. Officer Thomas Garland is a recent graduate of the Merrimack College Police Academy. Notably, Officer Garland put himself through the Police Academy, which is an incredible undertaking. He completed the program at Merrimack College with his academy certification as well as a Master of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. He has spent the past several weeks in our Field Training Program riding alongside veteran officers.
Officers Joseph Bean, Jacob Drapkin and Eric Ferrara graduated from the Municipal Police Training Committee Lynnfield Police Academy last Wednesday. The MPTC Lynnfield Police Academy’s 3rd Recruit Officer Class (ROC) consisted of 43 police officers representing 21 police agencies across Massachusetts. The graduates successfully completed over 20 weeks of intensive, standardized training in all aspects of law enforcement and will now serve as full-time officers.
Prior to joining the Wellesley Police Department, Officer Joseph Bean worked as security officer at Fenway Park, as well as, a summer camp counselor and youth lacrosse coach in Reading. Officer Jacob Drapkin previously worked as a Community Service Officer with the Barnstable Police Department, as well as, a camp counselor and fishing instructor. Officer Eric Ferrara formerly worked as a security officer at Fenway Park and most recently as a substitute teacher with the Wellesley Public Schools. Officers Bean, Drapkin and Ferrara will now begin working with and shadowing veteran Field Training Officers for approximately 3 months. During this time they will learn the core values of the Wellesley Police Department and the expectations of the citizens of Wellesley.
If you see Officers Bean, Drapkin, Ferrara and Garland around town please welcome them to the community as they are excited to get to work and become part of the fabric of Wellesley.
