Wellesley's 2022 Annual Town Meeting will take place via Zoom videoconferencing due to continued Coronavirus concerns.
Town Meeting was originally scheduled to take place in-person at the Wellesley Middle School auditorium.
While public health data continues to improve, the Town Moderator and local health officials raised concerns about the ability for Town Meeting Members to be physically distanced from each other in the auditorium and about the duration of the meetings, which can last up to five hours a night.
The change to remote participation was approved by both the Moderator and the Select Board.
This provision is allowed by a new law passed earlier this year, Chapter 22 of the Acts of 2022, which extends remote meeting participation until July 15, 2022.
Annual Town Meeting begins on Monday, March 28 and is expected to continue on March 29, April 4 and 5, and April 11 and 12 if necessary.
