Strategic Housing Plan

With the successful implementation of the Housing Production Plan, the Town of Wellesley is now in a position to plan for its future housing needs proactively. The Strategic Housing Plan will identify our community’s vision for housing and its short- and long-term objectives, as well as strategies for implementing these objectives. 

A draft of the Strategic Housing Plan was completed in May 2025 and is available for public comments. 

The public is invited to submit comments on the Strategic Housing Plan. Please email housingplan@wellesleyma.gov 

 The Wellesley Housing Task Force partnered with consultant Barrett Planning Group to create this plan. Comprehensive information about this process is on the independent website linked below and is regularly updated.

Strategic Housing Plan Background

Residents of Wellesley recognize that the Commonwealth has a serious need for additional housing such as more housing for young families, town employees, residents who want to downsize and remain close to their support networks in Wellesley, and attainable housing that is available below the current median home price of $2M+. 

The Town is actively planning for its future in a number of synergistic areas, and housing must be analyzed and developed in conjunction and in a complementary manner to the existing plans.

Process 

The Strategic Housing Plan process will include:

  • Public Engagement with community surveying, interviews, and forums
  • Review of market analytics and the development of a barriers assessment , followed by more community engagement
  • Preliminary presentations to Select Board and Planning Board
  • Draft plan submitted for public comment

Stay up to date on the Strategic Housing Plan process, give input, and learn about future public meeting dates.  There are a number of ways to stay informed:

  • Visit the Wellesley Strategic Housing Plan site for regular updates from Barrett Planning Group.
  • Sign up for emailed announcements from the Town. Go to the Town website homepage and click on the blue "Subscribe to News" button, enter your email address and scroll down to "News Flash", select Strategic Housing Plan. You will receive an email verifying your subscription.
  • Email housingplan@wellesleyma.gov to add your name to the announcement list.
