Public Health Nursing and Disease Prevention

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Wellesley Health Department employs one full-time Public Health Nurse Supervisor, one part-time Public Health Nurse, and several per-diem nurses who provide support when needed.  Our public health nurses are healthcare professionals who work to improve the overall health and well-being of our community by focusing on prevention, education, and health promotion.  Some key areas include:

  • Developing and implementing programs aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases, managing chronic conditions, and reducing health risks.
  • Assessing the health needs of specific populations, identifying health disparities, and advocating for resources or changes to improve community health.
  • Gathering health data and tracking disease trends, 
  • Working alongside other Health Department professionals, other municipal agencies and community organizations to deliver coordinated care and services.
  • In times of public health emergencies (such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters), playing a critical role in providing care and ensuring public health protocols are followed.
