DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Wellesley Health Department employs one full-time Public Health Nurse Supervisor, one part-time Public Health Nurse, and several per-diem nurses who provide support when needed. Our public health nurses are healthcare professionals who work to improve the overall health and well-being of our community by focusing on prevention, education, and health promotion. Some key areas include:
- Developing and implementing programs aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases, managing chronic conditions, and reducing health risks.
- Assessing the health needs of specific populations, identifying health disparities, and advocating for resources or changes to improve community health.
- Gathering health data and tracking disease trends,
- Working alongside other Health Department professionals, other municipal agencies and community organizations to deliver coordinated care and services.
- In times of public health emergencies (such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters), playing a critical role in providing care and ensuring public health protocols are followed.
