At the November 19, 2024 meeting, the School Committee reviewed and discussed the following presentations:

The Committee discussed the WPS PK-Grade 5 School Improvement Plans (SIP). Early Childhood Interim Director Kristen Stacy presented the preschool (PAWS) plan while the elementary school principals presented the aligned plan for the district’s elementary schools.

The Committee discussed the district’s annual update on the WPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan (BPIP) following a presentation by Student Services Director Dr. Kat Bernklow.

The Committee continued discussion on the SY2024-25 District and Superintendent Goals. The Committee voted and approved, separately, the SY2024-25 District and Superintendent Goals. The Committee discussed the Selection Criteria for a WPS Leadership team coach.

The Committee discussed potential warrant articles for the 2025 Annual Town Meeting (April 2025).

Warrant Article Climate Control: Funding request to update 2020 Climate Control Feasibility Study to move forward on plans for climate control improvement at Bates, Fiske, Schofield & WMS.
Warrant Article: Funding request to implement Hunnewell Track & Field Team Rooms

The Committee continued discussion on the Academic Calendar Task Force (ACTF) process and findings. Further discussion and potentially a vote is planned for the December 10 meeting. The discussion follows the work of the ACTF which began in April 2024. The School Committee has not formally taken models off the table, but some members have expressed support for hybrid or “rotating” models that have emerged following the task force's recommendation. These models, in particular “rotating models” 3 and 4 on this worksheet, build on the work of the task force and are responsive to additional feedback received by the School Committee.
