As a Wellesley resident, the words "Wellesley Health Department" may be familiar to you (especially after the previous two years!), but do you know what the Health Department actually does? You may be surprised to know our work goes far beyond Flu shots and contact tracing. For example, this year we inspected 48 summer camps and over 150 restaurants, swimming pools, tanning salons and permanent makeup artists. We run programming for community members from speaker series to CPR and even yoga! Our social work staff helps residents access resources related to mental health, financial needs, housing, employment, food insecurity and more.

Starting in January, we plan to highlight the work of each of our staff members to offer our community members the full picture of what the Health Department can offer. As always, we love to hear from you with questions, comments or ideas: email us at health@wellesleyma.gov.

What exactly IS public Health?

Ask people what public health means and you'll likely get a lot of answers. But, the American Public Health Association has a nice, succinct definition: Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play.

Here at the WHD we are focused on protecting the health of our whole community. This means implementing policies and programs that focus on improving the health and well-being of as many Wellesley residents as possible. Visit our website to learn more! https://wellesleyma.gov/193/Health
