Author Talk:  From Schnitzel to Nockerln and
Everything That Happened In Between (in person)

Join us for an author talk given by Joy Viola, who will discuss the highlights of her book on travel and adventure, often humorous, that spreads from the rain forests of Trinidad to the outback of Australia and all the way to the ice-covered continent of Antarctica. The tales continue through China, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, the Galapagos Islands, Canada, Cuba and the western United States. Joy recountsthe times she and her husband traveled by horseback, zodiac, combi, tundra buggy, and small aircraft to photograph and write about the natural world on all seven continents. She also tells stories of the experiences that they faced on these explorations such as sleeping with a Motmot, being face to face with a polar bear and dining with sheiks in Saudi Arabia. Both Joy and her late husband, Alfred, have over 2300 species on their respective Birders’ Life Lists. Joy is now an octogenarian and continues her active lifestyle planning new international adventures proving one is never too old to explore new horizons.

Are you ready to “cut the cable”? Watching TV has changed a lot over the last 20 years. Now you can choose from hundreds of channels, watch TV on just about any electronic device at any time, anywhere! This short course will walk you through all the ways you can watch now: traditional cable, over the air, streaming and live TV over the Internet. We will consider what it takes to “cut the cable,” and whether your TV and Internet service can handle it. There will be demonstrations and time for your questions.

Author Talk - Being There Then:
A Guide to Exploring Boston’s Historic
House Museums (online)

Elizabeth Merrick, author of Being There Then: A Guide to
Exploring Boston’s Historic House Museums, states: “one of
the pleasures of visiting or living in Boston, with its wealth
of historical resources, is to be able to experience the past
through the historic houses left to us by earlier inhabitants.”
Elizabeth’s talk will cover the highlights of the more than forty historic houses open to the public in and around Boston that are profiled in her book, which range from colonial to Victorian, from modest to upper-crust. The presentation will go beyond the basics of each house and convey the overall visitor experience and discuss how these houses bring history alive and allow usto take a journey back in time.


Basket Weaving Workshop

This is a great introductory class to basket weaving. This class is designed for the individual who wants to try this craft without
feeling overwhelmed. You will learn basic basket structure along with
tips on handling weaving materials. You will complete your first rattan
basket during class. All materials supplied.
