Wellesley Neighbors to share speakers on Zoom
Local residents are invited to attend the monthly speaker series of Wellesley Neighbors, a non-profit membership organization for older couples and singles in Wellesley and nearby towns. On September 30 at 7:30 pm, the first speaker will be Dr. Steve Molinsky, a WN member and Wellesley resident, on “What I Have Learned about Language Learning.” With an M.A. and PhD. In Linguistics from Harvard, he taught 50 years with the Graduate Program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Boston University, and has written many textbooks used worldwide.

Dr. Molinsky’s talk will be on zoom, at no charge. Interested persons are welcome to contact WN Executive Director Joyce Wadlington to register their email address so that a zoom link can be provided. Please call 781 283-0417 or email Director@WellesleyNeighbors.org.

Every September, the Wellesley Choral Society (WCS) invites singers to attend free Open Rehearsals in order to get to know the group and hopefully become a member.
This year, in addition to new singers, we invite those who have an interest in music, singing, and music history or those looking for an engaging, interesting, and social activity to join us for our online fall and winter season.  We will not be singing in person but instead will offer 15 weekly Zoom sessions on Monday nights from September 14th through January 2021 with our director, Edward Whalen, as instructor.  We plan to present a concert in May 2021 entitled, A Celebration of Women Composers. If you are looking to try us out without having to come in person; if your chorus is not meeting this fall; if you wish to learn more about music and the WCS; or if you just have some free time and are looking for a new activity for the fall and winter, please try us out during one or all of our three Open Sessions Monday, September 14th, September 21st, and September 28th.  For information on our schedule, how to register, and other details, please visit the Choral Society’s website: www.wellesleychoralsociety.org.

We continue our collaboration with Regis College and the students who will help facilitate programs for us.
Week 4: (October 2): Strength and Balance - Members will be guided through various low-impact strength and balance exercises. They will be suggested to have a chair nearby for any modification or energy conservation needs. This will promote coordination, fall prevention, increase in overall strength and balance, increase in cognition and confidence, etc. They will also be a conversation to discuss the importance, feedback in how they are feeling and comfortability, and members will be encouraged to practice these methods throughout their daily life.
