Your Stories of Wellesley - Wellesley has a rich and interesting history that many of us don’t know. The COA is compiling stories of what Wellesley was like when you were growing up here, moved here, worked here, raised your family here and more. How different was our town then? What funny stories can you share? What special memories do you have? What was life like? What stores or restaurants did you go to? How was Morses Pond? What fun events did you attend? What were your favorite weekend activities? The COA will compile all your stories so we can get a new perspective on Wellesley and share it with our residents (stories can remain anonymous if you choose to). Stories can be serious, humorous, exciting, unexpected… just anything you would like to share to reveal various aspects of Wellesley’s history.
Email: Wellesley.Nathalie@gmail.com to arrange a time to talk over the phone and choose how you would like to share your stories. We have lots of time to talk and write about Wellesley’s history. Your knowledge of Wellesley is very valuable to all.
Starting the week of May 4th - Writing Your Spiritual Autobiography - Our senior years give us the opportunity to reflect on the arc of our lives, and this often brings a heightened awareness of life’s spiritual dimension. When we define spirituality as a connection to something larger than the self, the spiritual dimension of life may include our relationship with God, our awareness of a universal force in our lives, or an effort to live in harmony with higher principles such as nature, beauty, community, or other cherished values. Whatever this may be, you’ve probably experienced it as a power beyond yourself that influences and gives greater meaning to your life. Through discussion, drawing, and writing exercises, we will explore the ways in which we have personally experienced that power in our lives, and we’ll work toward writing at least the beginning of a spiritual autobiography. The program consists of six two-hour weekly sessions to be scheduled at a mutually convenient time, starting during the week of May 4. We will begin with a video-conferencing format using Zoom or an equivalent platform and then move to on-site classes at the COA when COVID-19 precautions permit. Please contact Amy Rose at the COA if you are interested in participating. Enrollment is limited to eight. Alan Bodnar, the workshop leader, is a retired clinical psychologist, a columnist for New England Psychologist and the author of the 2018 book Simply Human: Reflections on the Life We Share. He studied spiritual autobiography with Dan Wakefield, the author of The Story of Your Life: Writing Your Spiritual Autobiography, and has adapted the technique for use with different audiences.
