Dear Tolles Parsons Members, Looking for something to do this weekend? With the help of some volunteers we have some fun activities to participate in!
Wellesley High School Students looking to connect with our members as virtual pen pals - Wellesley High School Junior, Nate Poresky, and a group of friends are looking to connect with local seniors as "Virtual Pen-Pals" to reduce isolation and boredom. If you would like to be matched to correspond with a local student and share your words of wisdom, please email an introduction to Nate directly: 21poreskyn@wpsraiders.orgYour Stories of Wellesley - Wellesley has a rich and interesting history that many of us don’t know. The COA is compiling stories of what Wellesley was like when you were growing up here, moved here, worked here, raised your family here and more. How different was our town then? What funny stories can you share? What special memories do you have? What was life like? What stores or restaurants did you go to? How was Morses Pond? What fun events did you attend? What were your favorite weekend activities? The COA will compile all your stories so we can get a new perspective on Wellesley and share it with our residents (stories can remain anonymous if you choose to). Stories can be serious, humorous, exciting, unexpected… just anything you would like to share to reveal various aspects of Wellesley’s history.
Email: Wellesley.Nathalie@gmail.com to arrange a time to talk over the phone and choose how you would like to share your stories. We have lots of time to talk and write about Wellesley’s history. Your knowledge of Wellesley is very valuable to all.
The Woman Behind the Surgical Mask - The Surgeon's Scintillating Secret - Akin to the popularity of the 16th Century masquerade, one feels the new "norm" of wearing a protective mask is a unique opportunity to posterize, or instigate a new identity. In the new world order, it is hard to know what - or who - hides behind the mask. In fact, one of History's most enduring and influential women, Deborah Sampson, hid her identity for nearly two years, disguised as a man in the Continental Army, using the alias "Robert Shurtlieff." It seemed nothing could reveal her secret; yet, eventually illness and a Philadelphia surgeon, Dr. Barnabus Binney, exposed her guise. Click here.
