Wellesley residents may once again use reuable bags when they shop.
An order by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) that temporarily suspended the use of these bags due to COVID-19 recently expired.
The original order was put in place on March 25, following the declaration of the State of Emergency in Massachusetts. The order provided guidelines for grocery stores which included restrictions on resuable bags and were intended to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus in the early weeks of the pandemic.
During this time, grocery stores in Wellesley used paper bags as Town bylaws prohibit the use of plastic bags in our community.
Health officials have determined there is a low risk of contracting COVID-19 from resuable bags. Shoppers are reminded to remain vigilant and wash their hands frequently.
