[ARCHIVED] A Message from the Council on Aging

COA logo

We recognize that the current Coronavirus outbreak is especially concerning for our Council on Aging members.

Currently, no Wellesley resident over 50 years old has been identified as a presumptive positive Covid-19 case.

However, effective today, Thursday, March 12, 2020, the Tolles Parsons Center will be closed for approximately two weeks as a precautionary measure to help minimize health risks to Wellesley’s senior citizen population. The decision to reopen will be assessed on a daily basis and in conjunction with the Wellesley Health Department and Town officials.

All COA classes, activities, and the lunch program are canceled. The fitness center is also closed. Critical social services provided by the Health and Human Services Administrator remain available.

The COA bus will be operating Monday-Friday exclusively to provide transportation to the grocery story, pharmacy, and/or to medical appointments. To ensure appropriate social distancing, a limited number of riders will be allowed on the bus at any given time. All appropriate measures to clean and disinfect the bus are done each morning and regularly throughout the day. Hand sanitizer is also available to riders at all times.

COA staff will be available to answer your questions and help connect you to resources you need. Please call between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, our regular business hours.

We are investigating ways that we may be able to provide some programming remotely; please watch your email for updates and options. For programming we are unable to provide during the period we remain closed, appropriate refunds will be provided.

We know this is a time of extreme uncertainty and want to ensure Wellesley’s senior population remains physically and mentally healthy. Please reach out to us with any questions and concerns. All our staff members are available by phone and are happy to help you during the coming weeks. Our phone number is  781-235-3661.

Thank you!
