The Wellesley School Committee is providing regular updates to the community on the status of negotiations with the Wellesley Educators Association (WEA).
Recognizing that there is strong interest in this issue, on Wednesday, March 1 the School Committee released a Frequently Asked Questions document to the Wellesley Public Schools community. This document provides information on the negotiation process, the compensation package that the Committee has offered the WEA, as well as other details about open issues and School Committee positions.
On Thursday, March 2 the Department of Labor Relations (DLR) notified the School Committee and the WEA that it has determined that the parties are at impasse in accordance with state law. The DLR has assigned a mediator to assist the parties in coming to an agreement.
The DLR decision comes after representatives from the School Committee and the WEA met four times in February and failed to reach agreement on the five contracts that cover the vast majority of WPS staff including teachers, nurses, department heads, directors, assistant principals, paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, secretaries, and other staff members.
The FAQ document will remain available on the homepage of the Wellesley Public Schools website and will be updated as more information becomes available.
