The 125th Boston Marathon will be one for the history books!
Due to the continued pandemic, the Marathon will not take place on Patriot's Day, Monday, April 19 but has been rescheduled for Monday, October 11, 2021.
As determined by the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) the in-person race is limited to 20,000 runners; the B.A.A. is also holding a virtual Boston Marathon event the weekend of October 8-10.
The Town has received a limited number of invitational entries for the in-person Marathon that will be awarded to local non-profit organizations and runners representing the War Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Non-profits and runners may apply for these invitational entries beginning on Tuesday, April 20 through Monday, May 10. Applications will be available on the Town of Wellesley website. The minimum fundraising amount for the 2021 Marathon is $5,000.
The Select Board will review all applications and announce the invitational entry recipients at its regular meeting on Monday, May 17.
Priority will be given to Wellesley non-profits and groups whose services benefit Wellesley residents. War Memorial Scholarship runners must be Wellesley residents.
