Start or End Service
The Wellesley Municipal Light Plant (WMLP) provides electric service within the Town of Wellesley and provides the billing of Water and Sewer for the Town's Department of Public Works. To apply for service you must call or visit the WMLP. Below is the required information for both residential property owners and renters.
Final Readings are scheduled in two windows of time. You may select either 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. or Noon until 2 p.m.
Please have the following ready when you call to schedule your Final meter readings:

Residential Property Owners
Move Out
If you are selling your property you or your agent need to either submit the request below or call to schedule an appointment for a final reading of all of your meters. Electric, Water and Sewer meter reads will be needed for your passing of papers. The "final bill" will be ready for you to pick up and pay the next business day after the reading is completed or it can be emailed to you or your attorney. There is a $30 per meter fee for all final water readings.Final Readings are scheduled in two windows of time. You may select either 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. or Noon until 2 p.m.
Please have the following ready when you call to schedule your Final meter readings:
- Property address of final reading
- The date of the final reading (keep in mind that the bill will not be ready until the next business day after the reading was completed)
- The date of the property closing
- Forwarding address of the customer moving out
- Name(s) of new customer(s) moving in
Move in
Welcome to your new home. Electric, water and sewer services are supplied to your home by the Town-owned, Wellesley Municipal Light Plant and Department of Public Works. Your utilities will be billed monthly on a single bill by the Municipal Light Plant. The utility account will be set up by the seller or their agent and is set up in order to meet your mortgage company's requirements of when they need the paperwork. Your name will appear on your utility bill as it does on your real estate tax bill. If the home is in a trust, the utilities will also be in the name of the trust.The Customer Service department will send you a packet of information a few weeks after your account is established. Residential Rentals & Commercial Property
When you move from your address you need to call to schedule an appointment for a final reading of your electric meter. Final Readings are scheduled in two windows of time. You may select either 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. or Noon until 2 p.m.What you will need when you call:
- Property address of final reading
- The date of the final reading
- Your forwarding address so we may return your security deposit to you
- Name(s) of new customer(s) or of your landlord, if that is who is taking over control of the account
Deposits
A completed Application of Utility Services and a security deposit are required of all commercial and rental properties. Reviewing the previous usage of the unit and adding the three highest months usage together will determine this deposit. You will receive a letter with the forms and the security deposit within 2 weeks of moving in to your new location. The security deposit will be billed along with your electric usage.
