TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
July 5, 2007
Attendees: John Schuler, Denny Nackoney, Lenny Poitras, Joan Gaughan, Bob White
We will ask the DPW to move the map house on Maugus Ave closer to Washington St. The move will provide~more visibility and reduce vandalism.
We are in favor of expanding the bottle bill to include water bottles. Joan will draft a letter to Alice Peisch expressing our support.
Ben Haines and his team of volunteers did an excellent job rerouting a portion of the Centennial Reservation Path. The reroute will greatly reduce~trai erosion and improve access from Wareland Rd.
There may be some interest from the Newton CPC to provide funds to repair the Lower Falls Railroad Bridge. Bob will see if the Selectmen have been able to get a cost estimate from the DCR. We will try to get some Wellesley CPC funds or 27 Washington linkage funds to~help repair the bridge. John will stay in contact with Newton. Applications for Wellesley funds are due October 1.
Bob will send a letter to the Selectmen asking for permission to install a map house near the downtown fire station.
The Fall Walk scheduled has been finalized. Please see Miguel's email for more details.
On Saturday July 21st at 8:00, the will be a Guernsey Path trail maintenance project south of the Waban Arches. Parking will be available at the Nehoiden House which is down the Nehoiden Golf Course driveway and passed the golfer parking. The work should take less than an hour Bring clippers, gloves and loppers if you have them.
The next meeting will be Thursday, August 30 at 7:30. At that meeting we will discuss updating sections of the trails in a more systematic manner. I have attached the latest Trail Monitor sheet.
