TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
May 22, 2007
Attendees: Tim Anderson, Len Poitras, Miguel Lessing, John Schuler, Peter Rovick, and Bob White. Citizens: Ben Haines, Peter Krieg, and Art Krieg.
Ben Haines presented his Eagle Scout project, the rerouting of a section of the Centennial Reservation Trail. The reroute will reduce erosion in the area and improve access to the path from Wareland Rd. Ben will complete the project in late June. The Trails Committee will be notified of the exact date and time, and volunteers are encouraged. Ben's presentation was very thorough and he answered the few questions that the members had for him.
Conceptually, the members felt that the major projects should be held for Eagle Scouts. If no Scouts are available for a time-sensitive project, the Committee will undertake the project.
We have several Scout projects available; bog bridge in Carisbrooke, a steps project on the Sudbury, a bridge project in Rockridge, and a potential steps project near Morses Pond. Denny, Len, Miguel and I will evaluate the need for these steps.
The Recreation Committee has voted to allow Morses Pond beach access during the non-swimming seasons. Janet Bowser is preparing a letter to Town Council to confirm that there will be no liabilities to the Town. Once we have approval we will make the appropriate changes to the Morses Pond trail, at the same time we will make the minor reroute to the MPT near the Crosstown Trail.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday July 10. Tuesday meetings can conflict with NRC meetings, which we would like to avoid. Let me know if Thursday now works with you, and we may return to our Thursday schedule.
