Trails Committee Minutes 04/03/2007
TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
April 3, 2007

Attendees: John Schuler, Miguel Lessing, Jim Elliot, Tim Anderson, Len Poitras, Denise D'Aunno, Denny Nackoney, Peter Rovick, Lewis Collins,
Bob White.  Citizen: Bob Brown

Based upon this outstanding turn out we may need to book the Selectman's Conference Room for future meetings.

Denny and I lost our chance for 5 minutes of fame, but Mark Stockman got his. Channel 5 did a very nice piece on the Town's trails focusing on the GPS mapping system.  The brief segment aired Friday around 5:25 pm.

There will be a trails improvement evaluation at Centennial Reservation and the Charles River Path. If you wish to participate, meet us at the northwest corner of the MassBay parking lot on Saturday April 14th at 8:00.  The evaluation should take about an hour.  Based upon our findings we will schedule a work party for later in the spring.  Although parts of Centennial Reservation get wet in the spring it does not appear to require trail relocation.  We may attempt to close off a small path on the east end of the pond, which has suffered from severe erosion.

After evaluating the proposed Sudbury Trail reroute near Olin College, John will contact the College.

Denny and Dave Livingston have evaluated the flooding on the Guernsey Path and they will continue to watch the area to determine the severity of the problem.

The spring walk schedule has been finalized.  Notices have gone out to the media outlets. Thank you Miguel.  Between now and the Fall walks Miguel and John will develop a set of talking points for each of our walks.

Since we are seeing more non-returnable bottles on our trails, we will be supporting an effort to expand the bottle bill.  Jin will contact Representative Alice Peisch to get the project started.

Denny has fixed the drainage problem on the south side of Rockridge Pond.

Denny and Joan Gaughan will schedule an evaluation walk around Abbot Pond.  Denny will communicate the date.
The path cleanup between the Charles River and Riverside scheduled for April 28th may be delayed.  Denny will communicate the final verdict.

We will write a letter to the Selectmen, asking that any development plans for 27 Washington (Grossman's) include monies to repair the Railroad bridge, as well as opening up the riverfront to pedestrian access.

If you are available, there will be a Morses Pond invasive plant removal project Sunday April 29th from 1 to 4.  Bring gloves and clippers.  On April 26th Miguel and I will meet with the DPW and Rec to discuss the proposed Trail reroute around the Ice Pond.

The next meeting will be Tuesday May 22nd at 7:30.

Bob White
