TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
January 16, 2007
Attendees: Miguel Lessing, Denny Nackoney, Jim Elliot, Denise D'Aunno, Joan Gaughan, Bob White.
Citizens: John Celi, Tim Anderson, Len Poitras
John presented his proposals for trail linkage in the downtown area. a) Close down Railroad Avenue. b) Connect the Crosstown Trail with the Brook Path near Simons Park. c) Connect Linden Square with Town Hall via a tunnel under the railroad tracks. The Trails Committee position is that a) and c) belong with other Departments in Town and are a change in scope for the Committee. If the plans are implemented, the Trails Committee will review modifying our trails to include the new areas. Before our next meeting, committee members will walk b) and be prepared to discuss at the meeting.
We voted to purchase 50 green t-shirts in four sizes. Peter Rovick will order the shirts. Members will get one shirt and may purchase additional shirts. We may run contests in the Townsman with shirts as prizes.
Once the Wellesley Country Club has built the new clubhouse they will build a pedestrian path parallel with Wellesley Avenue between Forest St and their parking lot.
Joan has emailed Bob Zimmerman, Executive Director of the Charles River Watershed Association, asking him to keep the Lower Falls Railroad Bridge project moving forward. He has agreed to lend his support.
The DPW and the Recreation Department are interested in providing more access to Morses Pond. Once they complete their work we will make a minor addition to the Morses Pond Trail. We may also modify the MPT at the eastern end to make a complete loop trail, rather than the current horseshoe. There will be a walk Saturday Feb 3 at 9:00 am to look at the proposed path. Meet at the end of Turner Rd near the gate.
Walker Woods, a Wellesley Conservation Council property, off the Sudbury Aqueduct, has been severely encroached upon. If asked, we will advise the WCC on how they may get the Woods cleaned up.
Miguel presented the draft of the Spring Walks schedule. Please get back to him if you can co-lead a walk.
The next meeting will be Tuesday March 6 at 7:30. ( After the meeting I realized that the 6th is Election Day and I will be fulfilling my Warden duties. Given the conflicts that we discussed at the meeting I would recommend keeping the 6th as the meeting date.)
