TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
TOWN HALL, LOWER LEVEL
October 19, 2006
Attendees: Joan Gaughan, Denny Nackoney, Jim Elliot, Elizabeth Holden, Bob White.
Guest: Ben Zaehringer
Ben presented his Eagle Scout Project. He will replace the rotting bridge in the Guernsey Sanctuary. We approved his plan with some minor corrections. He will make a presentation to the Wetlands Commission at their next meeting and hopefully replace the bridge this fall.
The capital budget and five-year capital plan were presented and approved. For FY08 we will be requesting operating funds and our capital requests have been reduced accordingly. I will be attending the NRC capital~presentation to Advisory on Nov 29th.
The Trail Monitor list was updated to give Elizabeth a section of the Crosstown Trail. After the meeting Denise D'Aunno informed me that she would like to resign from the Committee. I will take over her Monitoring duties. An updated list is attached.
Denny presented the Bates Bridge project. The DPW will build the bridge as well as a 35 foot long berm to minimize the run-off down the path. They will build the bridge and berm this fall. This bridge will improve access to Boulder Brook Reservation.
The Morse Pond area map is complete. Another very nice job by Mark Stockman.
Joan will contact Bob Zimmerman of the CRWA and ask for any help that he can provide to get the RR Bridge in Lower Falls repaired. The Planning Department has taken the lead in the project. The Selectmen should be sending a letter to the DCR requesting that the DCR repair the unsafe bridge in an expeditious manner.
The next meeting will be Thursday Nov 16th. We will discuss the spring walk schedule. The first two walks have shown record numbers of participants. We will also discuss~T-shirts.
There will be no December meeting. The January meeting will be on the 11th.
