TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
February 19, 2008
Attendees:Jim Elliot, Len Poitras, Denny Nackoney, Bob Brown, John Schuler, Bob White
Several reroutes on the Centennial Reservation Trail are being considered. We will have an on-site visit to discuss the reroutes on Saturday March 15th at 8:00 am. All are welcome.
All major blowdowns have been taken care of by the Trails Committee and the DPW.
Denny is putting together options for rehabbing our two existing major signs. He will have recommendations at the next meeting.
We have an available Scout project at Rockridge Pond involving the relocation of one bridge at the raising of another. Denny will contact the Scoutmasters.
The tentative plans for the railroad right-of-way east of 27 Washington (Grossman's) have been approved by the NRC. The plans call for parking on the right-of-way approximately halfway to the bridge. The half closest to the Bridge will remain greenspace. The plan calls for a walkway from Washington St to the bridge and then downstream to the DCR property which will connect to Boulevard Rd. National Development will allow the placement of a map house.
Given the anticipated override the Committee voted unanimously to reduce our FY 2009 capital budget request to $0 from $5,000.
Two Wellesley High School seniors will be picking up trash on all the trails as their Senior Project. I will be visiting the sites as required. They will start the project in mid-April. If you have any areas that you would like them to work on let me know.
The Website has been updated.
Denny and I will have a meeting with the Natick Trails Committee to discuss trails that connect both towns, including a trail along the Sudbury Aqueduct near Pond St. which could connect with trails around Lake Waban.
Lenny has installed orange arrows near the Waban Arches, which will eliminate the need for a recently vandalized post.
I have contact Olin College and am awaiting a response on using their property as a section of the Sudbury Path. We should have all updates in place by mid-April. We would then have new maps in May.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 18th at 7:30 in Town Hall.
