Trails Committee Minutes 10/23/2007
TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
October 23, 2007

Attendees: Denny Nackoney, Lenny Poitras, Joan Gaughan, Tim Anderson, Jim Elliot, Bob white

Citizens: Marcia Rowlands, Bob Brown, Diane Hall, Rina Rub

The committee unanimously approved the FY09 Operating Budget request of $4,000, the same amount as FY08.

Jim Elliot drafted a letter to Rep Alice Peisch stating our approval for House Bill 3314 expanding the current bottle bill to include more personal sized drink containers. We made a few minor changes and I will email a copy to Rep Peisch. Joan will ask the NRC for their support as well.

Denny will attend the NRC meeting on Oct 30th to discuss the dumping on the Cochituate Aqueduct between Walnut and Washington. The Trails Committee will organize a neighborhood clean up on Saturday Nov 17th between 10 and 12. I have arranged for two dumpsters to be available at cross streets. Denny will prepare a flier and the NRC will mail them to approximately 200 neighbors.

Sunday Nov 4 from 2 to 3:30 will be our first Kid Trails day. Volunteers are needed to help man the 4 fun-filled stations on the Centennial Reservation Trail. If you can volunteer, let Joan know. We will meet in the MassBay College parking lot on Oakland St.

The most recent trail reroutes at Morses Pond and Centennial Reservation will be added to the map on the website as well as the next printing of the black and white map. We anticipate getting new maps for the map houses in the spring. Hopefully the Sudbury Path reroute through Olin will be approved. Many thanks to Denny and Mark Stockman for keeping the system updated. Denny is work on a map format which will allow the B/W map to be folded into thirds which will expand the list of printers who can print maps for us.

The Trail Monitor list has been revised and is attached to this email. Denny provided the Trail Monitor responsibilities. If you need a copy let him know. The DPW should be moving two map houses shortly; Cedar/Walnut to the Central St Fire Station and Maugus Ave closer to Washington St.

On Saturday Nov 3rd at 8:00 will have a short work project to reset the bog bridge. We could use some young, strong backs. Park in the rear of the Bates School parking lot and go across the new bridge. Bring shovels and gloves.
I have contacted the Beard Way developer regarding maintenance of the Cart Path which is part of our Beard Trail. Maintenance of the Beard Way public areas is now the responsibility of the Beard Way Homeowners Association. I am working with the Needham Conservation Council to get a contact, because Needham also has requirements that the Homeowners need to fulfill and most of the property is in Needham.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday Dec 4th at 7:30 in Town Hall.

Bob White
