TRAILS COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
February 28, 2007
Attendees: Len Poitras, Tim Anderson, Peter Rovick, Denny Nackoney, Miguel Lessing, Bob White
The DPW will build the bridge and construct a swale behind the Bates School this summer.
The Riverside to Concord St. Rail Trail clean-up will be Saturday April 28th beginning at 9:00 am. The AMC will lead the effort. This project will provide impetus to the DCR to fix the railroad bridge in Lower Falls. Denny is the TC contact.
The Girl Scouts will remove invasives near the Morses Pond Beach on Sunday April 29th beginning at 1:00. Miguel is the TC contact. He will work with the DPW to get a dumpster and some tools, as well as ensuring that the gate is open.
We reviewed and approved with minor changes the Town generated map of the Trails network. Great job by Marc Stockman and Denny. We will use the Town generated map when we need to update our existing maps.
I will contact John Olmstead at Wellesley College to get a status on our request to reroute the Guernsey Path through the campus. After the TC walked the proposed loop reroute at Morses Pond the TC agreed on the reroute. We will not mark or map the reroute until the DPW has a firmer commitment to complete their work at the beach area.
Peter Rovick delivered the new TC tee-shirts. Thank you Peter. If you have not gotten yours and can not attend the next meeting, let me know and we will get them delivered.
I will try to coordinate a fall clean-up of Walker Woods with the Boy or Girl Scouts.
After a discussion, the Trails Committee can not support John Celli's proposed trail through Simons Park connecting the Brook and Crosstown trails. We believe that there are wetlands and logistical issues, as well as available alternatives to John's proposal.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 3rd at 7:30.
